How to choose baby names?

Choosing a name for your baby is supposed to be a fun thing to do but it can often get stressful. You can easily get confused by all the names available! So it is important to know about the things to consider before you choose a baby name.

It may be that you and your partner are in love with a few baby names. It may be that you have a family tradition that asks you to name your baby after a particular forefather. It may also be that you want a name that goes with your unborn baby’s sister or brother. Whatever it is, it is important that you relax and research well before your baby is born.

There are some people who don’t want their child to have a name that is totally unheard of. If you are one of them, a good idea would be to give your baby a popular name that is already being used by people all around. Are you someone who would like their child to have a name that is exotic and unique? There are lots of unique baby names around you can use.

Though many people have names that don’t really mean anything, more and more parents are trying to choose baby names which are just the opposite. Choose a name whose meaning appeals to you.

Choose a baby name with care because after all, this is the identity your child will live with all his life.

First time mothers: Keep your cool!

Giving birth to a baby and taking care of it is not an easy proposition and if it happens to be your first time, it becomes tougher. All first time mothers need to keep in mind a few basic things. Apart from that, have fun and enjoy your pregnancy for as long as it lasts!

Shopping for baby: Starting to shop for the baby before it arrives is a good idea. There are a lot of things you need to buy, from clothes, diapers, toys, books, toiletries, baby care products, baby foods, etc. Make a list of all the things you need and finish a part of it every weekend.

Decorating the nursery: This is also a job best done before the arrival of the baby. The baby nursery should have a crib or cot, nursery shelves, bassinet and a few other items. Also, it should have a space allocated for toys and other baby’s stuff. The baby will require a lot of things and it makes sense to have space for all of them.

Get sleep: After you have given birth, it is important that you get enough sleep. This may seem like impossible for a new mother, but you have to manage. A good idea is to sleep while the baby sleeps.

Pet problems: If you have a pet at home, do make sure that it gets adjusted to the new addition to your family. It will take some effort on your side, but with time, your pet and baby are going to be the best of friends.

How to child- proof your home?

Caring and loving your baby is one of the most beautiful things you will ever do, but when it comes to the matter of child- proofing your home, there are a few important things that you need to keep in your mind. You don’t want your baby to get hurt, right? Here are child- proofing techniques to help you out.

Your child will take everything it sees into its mouth as soon as it can get up and sit. This means that you should pay attention on anything that is strewn on the floor, kept in low shelves, drawers and unlocked cabinets. Get rid of pieces of plastic, metal, plastic covers or balloons that may pose as a health hazard to your baby.

Secure the staircase by installing safety gates. If the gas between the stair railings is too wide, get additional railing done so that your baby doesn’t fall through.

The backyard is a dangerous place for your bay to be because it is unpredictable and may contain a number of things your baby should not go near. Keep this area of your house out of bounds for your baby, until it understands how to keep itself safe there.

If you have a swimming pool, make sure that there are safety gates installed at its entry point. You don’t want your baby going anywhere near the pool.

Keep all medications, pesticides, cleansers and toxic materials out of reach from your baby.

How to introduce your new baby to the pet?

Having a baby is definitely a life- altering event. If you have a pet, then you must be worried about how the pet will react to your new baby and vice versa. What if the pet gets jealous and bites your baby? Many questions such as this will continue to haunt you. There is however a few guidelines you can follow to introduce your new baby to the pet.

Think about your pet’s temperament, more so if it is a dog. You must have heard stories about dogs hurting babies or even killing them. If you are not confident that the temperament of your pet will be harmless to your baby, you can think about giving it up. There are many local rescue groups who will relocate your pet if you want. Your child’s safety is paramount.

Familiarize your pet with the baby furniture some time before your baby comes home. Get the crib out, put the swing in the living room and set up the bouncy chair on the floor. By the baby comes home, your pet will get familiarized with the new furniture and not consider the baby as an intruder into its space.

Try to get a friend or family member to come home with one of your baby’s hats when you are still in the hospital and let it sniff it. This will help the pet get familiarized with the baby’s smell.

Don’t let your pet remain with your baby Alone. Always keep close supervision.

What should you do if your baby gets injured during birth?

Giving birth to a baby is one of the most wonderful experiences life bestows. Even before a baby comes into this world, parents do their best to give it the best care ad love possible. So what do you do if your baby was injured during birth? And what if this happened because of the negligence and carelessness of the doctor and nurses?

You should immediately start looking for a lawyer who specialties in medical malpractices and birth injury grievances. It is important that you act fast when your baby’s condition is still new. This will make your evidence strong and ensure a favorable outcome.

The injuries that are caused to the baby is not only costly to treat, they may also affect the baby’s delicate body.

There are different causes of birth injury. It may be the case that wrong medication was given to the baby or poor use of medial instruments may have happened or there was miscalculation of the medication given to the mother. If luck is with you, your baby will be normal in a few months time, but if not, your baby may grow up with a permanent disability.

Looking for a good lawyer is not easy and you will have to ask around for references from family and friends.

As early as you can, try to settle the claim. You just want your baby to be all right, isn’t it?

How to select appropriate baby furniture

If you are having a baby, it is important that you choose the right furniture for your home. It’s never too early to start searching for baby furniture when you are pregnant. The earlier you begin your search, the more time you get to do it.

Looking online for baby furniture is a great way to go about it. There are various furniture- selling websites available where you will be able to find all sorts of furniture. Not only will you find materials like wood, metal, you will also find artificial materials as well in different colors and models. The internet is also a great place to scout for discounted furniture. But first decide on what you are looking for? Are you shopping for a crib, bassinet, a changing table or an entire furniture set?

If you have had a baby before, a good way to save money would be to re- use the furniture. Make sure that you visit a number of online stores before you settle for one. If you do this, you will be able to know which website offers the least prices.

You may also decide to opt for free furniture for your baby. It is possible to find classified ads in newspapers and magazines where parents give away their baby furniture for free. You may be able to find a few nice pieces if you do this.

Every parent wants nice furniture for their children and with some effort, you are going to do it too.

Tips to help you with decorating your house when you are having a baby

Having a baby changes everything and if you are pregnant, decorating your house is one of the most fun things to do. Here are tips to keep in mind:

If you are doing up a nursery, it will help if you know whether it will be a boy or a girl. Paint the walls of the nursery in a soft color with a non- toxic paint that is meant to be used for nurseries. Safety cover outlets should be installed as well.

Look around your house and find which items could be hazardous. Glass- end tables and coffee tables are pretty but if your baby gets up on them when it starts crawling and hurts itself, you will have only yourself to blame.

If your house doesn’t have carpeting, it’s time you opt for it. Your baby is going to fall a lot after it starts crawling. Carpeting will help preventing injuries.

Safety outlet covers for all your electrical appliances is important. This is not only for your baby, but for any children that may come into your house.

The furniture in your household should have rounded edges, and not sharp ones. A crib, a rocking chair and a changing table are important pieces of furniture you definitely will need.

It is not easy to remember everything while decorating your house to make it baby- friendly, but with a little effort you can do a great job.

Does your baby come with a manual?

When the doctor placed my new born onto my chest, what I felt was indescribable. Feelings of joy, excitement, happiness and love for my baby engulfed me. It was truly the happiest moment of my life. But my baby did not come with a manual. So how do I handle it?

Even if it came with no manual, I slowly learnt a few things about how to handle my baby and take care of it the proper way. The first thing I learnt perhaps was not to take everyone’s advice seriously. Of course, some of it may be helpful advice, but the major part is things that would only stress me out more when I already had too much on my plate. For instance, whenever my baby cried, my mother- in-law would say that I was starving it by breast feeding it. It drove me nuts. I had to say strictly to her that since she had never breastfed any of her children, her knowledge about it was particularly limited. So could she stop bothering me?

I also learnt that trusting my motherly instinct is the best way to go. It is what will alert me if something goes wrong with my baby. Also, learning to relax and asking for help from friends and family so that I could just rest and get some sleep is a good idea.

So even if my baby didn’t come with a manual, I developed one by myself through trial- and- error.

New parents: You need your sleep too!

As you must already know, sleep is the number 1 casualty for new parents. The thought of sleeping for a full 7 to 8 hours every night seems like a distant dream when you have a newborn at home. But with proper planning and coordination with your partner, it may just be possible to turn the dream into reality.

For a mother, sleeping when the baby is sleeping is the best thing to do. If your baby is taking a day time nap, you take it as well! Forget all your chores and household activities that need to be done; you need to take care of yourself too!

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. While it may be perfectly possible that you may not want to let your baby go out of your sight at any point of time, keeping its crib or bassinet just outside your door at night will keep you and your partner away from hearing every hiccup and coo it makes. Get sleep!

If you are using a baby monitor, turn down its volume. You want to hear it crying, not breathing!

Work out your nighttime schedule with your partner so that both of you can catch up on sleep, even if not at the same time.

Hire a babysitter whenever you can to sleep or just have some fun time with your partner. This is important.

If sleep doesn’t come, don’t think too much about it. Instead, listen to some relaxing music or read a book.
